The Municipal Times near you

During the four days of the Congress, we hope to spark many conversations that you will still think about after Tangier.

From 22 to 25 June 2026, Tangier will become the meeting point for thousands of local and regional leaders, practitioners, researchers, civil society representatives and partners from around the world. Together, they will debate the future of public services, democracy, care, climate action, human rights, local finance and the role of local governments in shaping the next chapter of global development.

But the story does not begin when the Congress opens, nor does it end when delegates return home.
This is where the Municipal Times comes in.

The Municipal Times was born during the UCLG World Congress in Daejeon in 2022 with a simple ambition: to document the ideas, experiences and debates shaping the global municipal movement. Four years later, it returns to accompany the conversations unfolding in Tangier and beyond.

The Congress will be covered through a continuous editorial journey.

Before
Municipal Times Outlook

You are reading it.

Published ahead of the Congress, the Outlook explores the questions, tensions and emerging debates that will shape the days in Tangier.

Rather than explaining the programme session by session, it seeks to understand what is at stake, why these discussions matter, and how they connect to the broader transformations affecting cities, territories and communities around the world.

The Outlook is an invitation to arrive prepared—not only to participate, but also to reflect.

During
Municipal Times Journal

Each morning during the Congress, the Municipal Times Journal will offer a journalistic look back at the previous day’s discussions, debates and encounters.

Published online throughout the Congress, the Journal will go beyond meeting summaries to identify the ideas gaining momentum, the voices shaping the agenda and the stories emerging from Tangier.
From political announcements, keynote debates and side events, the Journal will capture the evolving narrative of the Congress one day at a time.

For participants, it will be a daily companion. For those following from afar, a window into the Congress as it unfolds.

After
Municipal Times Insights

When the Congress concludes, the work continues. The Municipal Times Insights will look beyond the headlines to identify the key messages, emerging trends and strategic reflections that deserve to travel further.

Rather than serving as a final report, it will explore what Tangier means for the future: for the Local Social Covenant, for the evolution of local multilateralism, and for the role of local and regional governments in shaping the post-2030 agenda.

Because the most important outcome of a Congress is rarely a declaration but what continues afterwards.

From the Outlook to the Journal to Insights, the Municipal Times follows the ideas, debates and relationships that connect the local realities, global agendas and the people working every day to bridge the two.
